Alfred Ladzekpo is co-director of the CalArts Music and Dance Ensembles, and has chaired the School's World Music Program. He studied at Columbia University, where he also taught seminars in African Music and Dance for three years. He has performed widely in the eastern U.S. and given lecture-demonstrations throughout the country. He performed similar functions in Ghana, where he co-founded the Lashibi Agahu music and dance group. He has been the lead drummer for the Gbeho Research Group, the Uhuru Dance Band and the National Dance Company, all based in Accra, Ghana. In l969, he recorded African Dances and Games in New York. He attended the first International Symposium in Amsterdam on teaching world music in the West. He also gave lecture-demonstrations, performances and taught music and dance workshops throughout Israel. He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Cal State, Northridge, and a law degree from the People's College of Law. He also teaches African music at Pomona College and has written three African musicals.
