New Orleans native percussionist who is artistic director and founder of the samba percussion & dance gruop Casa Samba recognized by the city's Mayor Sidney Barthelemy in 1993 a Proclamation as the first New Orleans based samba school. He specializes in Brazilian percussion, capoeira and is well known as one of the three best Malabarismo (pandeiro jugglers) in the U.S. Curtis Pierre first learned about Brazilian percussion in the early 80's. With a long association and friendship with percussionist like Bill Summers, Munyungo Jackson, Ron Powell and renowned Brazilian drummer percussionist Airto Moreira. Airto has always been the "SPARK" sience the mid seventies that inspired him as well as heightens his percussion career in Brazilian folkloric music.

SAMBA
In the past twenty-five years he has studied and played with various Samba groups, African dance companies, percussion ensembles, reggae and pop music groups; appeared in video and movie spots and performed solo performances, he has also studied in Brasil with master in Brazilian dance, drums, percussion, candomble, capoeira and various other folkloric culture. In the past twelve years he has studied samba school percussion at several major Escolas de Samba's in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil including Mestre Mugue Portela(88-90, 92) Vila Isabel (89), Mangueria Mestre Russo Estacao Primeira de Mangueira (89, 90) Mestre Louro Salgueiro (88-89,04, Mestre Jorjao Mocidade Independente(88-91,98-01,04) also known as the best Bateria (best band), Mestre Cica Viradouro (98) Mestre Cenoc- Iye Aye, (first established afro-bloco samba group in Bahia)..

He is currently studying with Jorge Alabe for over ten years, (Chief Master Drummer in Condomble and Brazilian Folkloric Traditions. Renowned master drummer Jorge Alabe grew up immersed in the afro-Brazilian religious tradition -Candomblé - and in the rich musical culture of Brazil. He is an "Alabê" of the oldest Candomblé house established by the Africans in Brazil -Casa Branca. The title of "Alabê" means that he has obtained the highest level in drumming and master of ceremony in the Candomblé religion. This name is rarely bestowed on drummers unless they have been initiated, mastered drumming skills and have years of experience in Candomblé rituals.


CAPOEIRA
Studied and trained Capoeira Angola with Mestre (Master) Joao Pequeno, Mestre Joao Grande, Mestre Jurandir, Mestre Jogo de Dentro, Mestre Morias, Mestre Angolinha, Mestre Bira Accordao, Contra-Mestre Valmir, and my current Mestre Cobrinha Mansa Bahia Brazil (Capoeira choreographer for OBA OBA. Studied with pandeiro Mestre de Malabarismo (pandeiro juggling Edgar Aguiar of OBA OBA., He is currently studying with Master Drummer Jorge Alabe, (Bateria director for OBA OBA.
