A Band Called Sun began life in the hazy summer of 1995 in Acton, west London, with a mission to play bad ass funk and dub reggae. Comprising of guitarist Robin Harvey, bassman Aaron Hillier and drummer Matt Falconer, the trio rehearsed in North Acton and got their first gigs in Tulse Hill and Brixton.

Moving back to their native east Kent they began gigging extensively. Following a chance meeting on Whitstable beach in the summer of 1996, they were joined by skratcher and fellow bass head Matt Smyth (DJ Fingz) on turntables. The group developed an enthusiastic following, packing venues across Kent and generally having a debauched time.

In 1997 Tracy Sullivan joined the group as lead singer and the band recorded their first album Voodoo Rising. The band enjoyed a boom and went on to play a succession of festivals across the country. In 1999 they recorded their Blind Man EP, on their own Bad Vibes imprint and continued to gig extensively around the south east.

Sun then embarked on a period of writing music for stage and film, including an unusual adaptation of Marlow's Dr Faustus and the classic films Nosferatu and Metropolis, resulting in rave reviews, fights, scandal and singer Tracy Sullivan leaving to pursue a career as a singer/song writer! Robin and Matt Smyth then spent time working on commissions and various solo projects, with Robin gigging in Brazil and recording with some of the jazz rock scenes most respected names, and Matt writing and performing music for various arts companies, dabbling with the improvising scene, DJing, and engineering other bands.

The band have since taken stock and gone back to their roots, locking themselves in the studio, concentrating on getting their playing skills tight and writing new material. Now ready to unleash their latest onslaught of psychedelic dub funk, Sun are currently collaborating with The Sub Culture Sound System and have a release due on Formant Records.
