Sure, we all know and love the standard Christmas carols and familiar patriotic tunes commemorating The Fourth of July, but when was the last time you heard a really rippin’ Groundhog Day anthem? An ode to April Fool’s Day? Maybe a cathartic ditty to celebrate Labor Day? If you need a tune to add a bit of pizzazz to your holiday celebration than look no further than Holidays, the new album from two-time Grammy Award winning Brave Combo. Holidays is an invigorating musical experiment: nineteen songs that encompass seventeen holidays (New Year’s Day gets three songs). Of the nineteen tunes, seventeen are originals written by Brave Combo. Taken song-by-song, Holidays is an ideal collection of surprising, amusing new holiday tunes. When heard in one sitting as an album, Holidays becomes a calendar '" a joyous reflection that takes in the passing seasons and special days of the year through Brave Combo’s remarkable command of musical styles ranging from swing to conjunto, Celtic to surf, klezmer to country.

The concept of Holidays emerged when TM Comedy Network producer Larry King enlisted Brave Combo to help him produce and record some original holiday songs, which TM would then send out to morning radio programs. Brave Combo’s extraordinary musicianship elevates Holidays from seasonal novelty status into a diverse compilation of tunes guaranteed to bring a smile to your face and a bounce in your step. The end product finds Brave Combo members Jeffrey Barnes, Alan Emert, Carl Finch, Bubba Hernandez, and Danny O’Brien performing an entertaining anthology of new songs ranging from the darkly humorous “April Fool” to the touching “Father’s Day.”

Finch himself said it best, “Holidays! is a slice in a year of Brave Combo’s life. It marks a lot of milestones for us. The liner notes give a behind-the-scenes look at a work-in-progress. It’s a celebration of a year’s worth of special moments. Raise your glass and salute the groundhog, playing spin the dreidel with his valentine, the Easter bunny. Have fun. Stop worrying so much.”
