BAYOU SECO, Ken Keppeler and Jeanie McLerie play music of the Southwest, that they have learned first hand from old musicians. Celebrating cultures that eat hot food and play spicy music. Cajun, early Chicken Scratch(waila) from the Tohono O'odham, Northern New Mexican, Norteno and Zydeco styles are sometimes artfully blended into a uniquely exotic sound that entwines the roots of these musics. Ken (diatonic 1&3 row accordians, fiddle, harmonica and vocals) and Jeanie (5 string violins, guitar, & gutsy lead vocals in French, Spanish and English) are from Silver City New Mexico and have been playing this music together for 28 years.
For this CD they are expertly joined by long time band members Scott Mathis on mandolin, mandolin/banjo, octave mandolin and vocals, and Linda Askew on guitar.
Bayou Seco is well known for it's work in the USA as well as in England, Scotland, France and Germany. They are equally at home on a large concert stage, as well as in a small acoustic setting, and they are very good at leading workshops in instrumental or song styles of the Southwest and great childrens concerts. Their special brand of Southwestern Chilegumbo - Cajun two-steps, waltzes, polkas and rancheras, chotis's, meringues and huapangos, and, perhaps a broom dance, is cross - cultural, multi-lingual, and extremely participatory, and trancends labels and pigeon holes. It is true COMMUNITY music.
The group has seven CD's, and has been on several PBS television programs, and on many radio shows. The newest CD, "More Memories in Cababi" is a tribute to the Tohono O'odham fiddler, Elliott Johnson, who shared many beautiful old style double violin tunes with the group in the last few years of his life
