Born in Chicago in the mid - 1940's. Studied at Sherwood School of Music, Rizzo School of Music and at the Chicago Conservatory of Music.
In the early 1960's joined the AACM in Chicago. Played in the AACM ensemble, in Muhal Richard Abrahms small ensemble, and with other Chicago AACM members. Including Roscoe Mitchell, John Stubblefield, Henry Threadgill, Joseph Jarman, Phil Cochran, Bob Pulliam and bluesman Mighty Joe Young.
In 1969 he was invited to join the Sun Ra Arkestra, and became a regular member of the Arkestra untill summer of 1971.
In July 1971 Abshlom emigrated to Israel and became a founding member in the African Hebrew community.
A dynamic member of the Soul Messengers,
Accompanied Memphis Slim during his tours of Israel in the 1980's.
A member of Michael Greenblatt's From the Other Side big band
Accompanied Kirk Lightsey at the Jazz, Blues and Videotape Festival, Tel Aviv, Israel
Performed at the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat, Israel on several occasions
In recent years, leads his own group The Abshlom Ben Shlomo Ethnic Experience, forwarding the cause of Hebrew Israelite Culture by composing and playing songs of deliverance and enlightenment.
