This is the debut CD from the Golden Aires. These Jamaican gentlemen aspire to carry on a long tradition of Mento Music, a modern musical art form passed down from generation to generation whose primary purpose is to spread news and to entertain. At its' core is the 7 - note marimba bass. This is an instrument fashioned from a hollow wooden box, with 7 metal strips attached which resonate a specific note when plucked. It serves both rhythmic and percussive functions in the music. It was through development of such innovations that more contemporary styles of Calypso, Soca and Reggae developed. Comprised mainly of memorable, fun songs, Mento is best described as Caribbean Folk Music!
