Musical traditions from India, Turkey, Spain, and the America's combine in a uniquely refreshing form of music; Akdeniz guitar trio has worked the elements of these diverse ethnic sources into a flamenco neuvo musical experience sure to engage listeners on all levels of appreciation. Passionate Latin and Flamenco rhythms with captivating harmonized melodies and improvisational interplay form the basis of this exotic music. Akdeniz began two years ago with founding members Yakup Trana, Marcus Wood, Brad Pearce. Yakup Trana comes to the states from Istanbul, Turkey his home city. Yakup's years of professional work in Turkey combined with a Jazz studies degree from Cornish College of the Arts make his playing a wonderful asset to the group. Yakup has studied with prominent names such as Julian Priester, Jim Knapp, Chuck Deardorff and Dave Peterson. Brad Pearce an Oregonian has studied Classical and Spanish guitar in Rome, Barcelona, and at home in the United States with in master classes with the heads of guitar departments form University of Washington, Portland State University, and Yale. The Classical and Spanish - Flamenco elements of Brad's studies combined with his award winning finger style technique make his playing a refreshing experience. Marcus Wood comes from Arizona; his strong background in Jazz and Classical idioms make an excellent foundation for his studies in East Indian music. During his extended stay in India Marcus has studied Carnatic and Hindustani traditions spending a good portion of his time in Madras. Marcus's unique playing is definitely worth hearing. Akdeniz has recorded a self produced album that contains only original compositions that are performed in many Seattle venues. The diverse and exotic styles of music brought together in Akdeniz performances are sure to satisfy any listener.
