An Dóchas, Gaelic for “The Hope,†specializes in Irish music with a World beat. Formed in the late summer of 2001, this five-piece musical ensemble from Colville, Washington, fuses Irish music with other genres ranging from rock to jazz. A driving rhythm section of guitar, bass, and drums supports an array of traditional instruments including the Uilleann pipes, whistles, Bodhrán, and fiddle. With a strong instrumental base, the band integrates some vocal numbers of both comic and serious nature. Using traditional and original music in their sets to accompany strong, hard-hitting Irish dancing, An Dóchas provides an energetic and uplifting performance that appeals to audiences of all ages and musical preferences. For the past several years, An Dóchas has had the privilege to work with the Haran Irish Dancers. Together they have performed for sold-out audiences throughout the Northwest. On the road, An Dóchas travels with a select few of the dancers. Two of the dancers have recently qualified and competed in the World championships and three of them have traveled to Japan and Austria to perform. There are many exciting opportunities for An Dóchas and the Haran Irish Dancers this year. The group has a DVD scheduled for release in the Fall that will feature footage from two live performances by the group with a thirteen-member dance show. An Dóchas is also in the studio recording their second CD, an independent release scheduled to be out in the Winter of 2006. Their cd "Dragonfly Redux," is a rerecorded rereleased version of their first cd. The "Redux" album has two additional tracks as well.
