"From the gentle pop tug of "Mercy" to the spare and rousing "Rise", Light Diamond is a rare and special album, filled with a wealth of warmth and melody."

On her way to the Netherlands, van Zalm sat down with Alex Green of "Caught in the Carousel" (www.caughtinthecarousel.com) and discussed the making of the album, life in Elands and the state of Australian music...stay tuned for the full interview.

Peggy's rave:

Geoff and I met a cool couple and their one year old from New Zealand at a coastal market and they invited us back to Tiona Park caravan park to see the converted metro bus they'd been travelling in. This was after about a year and a half of re-erecting an old church hall and homeschooling our seven year old with a new baby born at home...yes we had become the full do it yourself team...but we’d started feeling a bit isolated in our conservative little village so it was a breath of fresh air to meet some colourful individuals. At one point they disappeared on one of their sightseeing tours but happily for us we reconnected again some weeks later and we followed the bus ‘round the back roads to a new years eve gig in Bobin hall.
It was a fortuitous night. I remember being enamoured at once with a number of versatile musicians playing sets throughout the night in different bands. I felt like we had found our musical soul mates amongst a vibrant and colourful rural community...
We played some gigs in the local organic cafe and accepted an invitation higher up the mountain along winding gravel roads and escarpment to visit with some of the local musicians...so it seemed we were gradually being called to to this lush rainforest environment and try out some alternative living...
This album has been two years in the making and its the next phase for me with songs written and recorded in this beautiful rainforest plateau. The "studio" is the old office of a former mill site looking out to expansive hillsides and we have had moments where synchronous birdsong in perfect pitch and timing add their magical atmospherics.

I hope you enjoy these musical documents of the latest adventurings...
