Born in 1960 in Shaanxi province in the People's Republic of China.
Lei began to play the erhu in 1975. From 1978 to 1982, Lei studied at the prestigious Xian Conservatory of Music.

From 1982 to 1993, Mr. Lei toured Beijing, Shanghai and all the other major Chinese cities with the Shaanxi Provincial Song and Dance Troupe continuing his studies under Yu Feng Yang, Wu Tong and Guan Min.

Lei Qiang currently performs with Cirque du Soleil orchestra in Las Vegas. The multi million dollar show is called "O".
