Weaving rock vocals and guitars between street inspired beats and classical Indian percussion, Bamboo Shoots' Research and Development EP hypnotizes the listener like a snake charmer, making everyone from emo kids to hip-hop heads bounce.

In the music, dizzying rhythms of tablas and high-pitched Hindi vocal samples find common ground with driving guitars and pulsating electronic beats. Many have compared the gritty culmination to Radiohead or Cody Chestnutt, with Garageband.com dubbing "This World is Beautiful" "The Year's Most Rockin' Track" and calling it "futuristic... very creative and thoughtfully done." Tracks like "Bombs" feature anguished vocals over soaring, scratchy guitars, while "Mountain Song" highlights a more melodic side, as voices harmonize over silky guitars and digitally chopped flute samples.

Bamboo Shoots started out as the collaboration of singer-songwriters Avir Mitra and Karl Sukhia in late 2002 as Avir was finishing a stint as the guitar player for Tabla Beat Scientist Karsh Kale (Six Degrees Records), performing regularly at venues such as Joe's Pub and SOB's in New York. From their home based studios they set about writing and recording their debut EP, finding drummer Shiv Puri, bassist Phil Dehoux, and guitarist Quinn Raymond along the way. Now, Bamboo Shoots sets out on their most ambitious project yet: to bring together their diverse musical influences into a cohesive and original whole.

Recently, Bamboo Shoots collaborated with VIBE Magazine (Feb. 2003) featured artist DJ Navdeep to create "Promised Land" and "September 12th", two crowd-favorite tracks on Navdeep's debut album. They have been featured and interviewed in Indie Top 20 as "Artist of the Week" and
People's Weekly praised their musical style as "equal parts pop, ballad, rap and the music of South Asia", calling the songs "tuneful and memorable." The Courier Post newspaper featured Bamboo Shoots in an entertainment section front page story, they have been featured and charted on college radio stations across the Northeast US, and have been featured and interviewed on the BBC Asian Network in the UK.
