Released in Canada in 2002, and released in South Asia by Crescendo Music in January 2004, 'Bageshree' is a bold move onto the modern world music stage. Combining elements of North Indian classical, Bollywood and straight-up pop, this album is a multi-lingual experience like no other. While growing up in St. John's, Newfoundland, Bageshree Vaze studied Indian classical music from her father and from teachers in India, but at the same time, she was soaking up western pop, dance and electronica and developing her own unique musical vision. What makes this multi talented artist really unique is her extensive training in Indian classical dance. Combining the beauty of classical Indian dance and music with Western instrumentation and aesthetics, her work is a reflection of her Indo-Canadian upbringing, and a homage to both her traditions as well as to the confluence of cultures in a new world.
