ZINDAGI by athmaya Athmaya is proud to present music that encompasses various genres, maintaining a strong traditional base with instrumentation and harmonies that are innovative. Music is entertaining first and foremost, however expressing one's thoughts, sharing personal emotions and presenting new ideas are an integral part of a musical endeavour. This collection of songs is a kaleidoscope of our varying backgrounds, issues we feel strongly about, musical experimentation and represents our combined perspective. We hope our first album Zindagi not only entertains and stimulates our listeners but exhorts you to experience and reflect on our wonderful culture, this beautiful life and the creative spirit. Christy Mathew (composer, arranger, producer) Christy began his musical training at age seven as a pianist and was later introduced to composition while studying at Spicer Memorial College, Pune, India. He holds a bachelors degree in composition from Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA, a masters degree in composition from Boston Conservatory of Music, Boston, MA. Christy has written music for ensembles ranging from solo instruments to chamber music to symphony orchestra. His compositions have been performed by the Esterhazy String Quartet, Boston Conservatory Orchestra, and Chorus. His career as an arranger and producer began with the album Heartbeats, a collection of poems by Sadhu Vasvani, followed by Thirunamam, a Christian devotional album. Christy also writes and performs music with EXILES, a contemporary Christian band based in New York. His diverse musical background can be heard in his brand new album "ZINDAGI." Christy currently works for Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA. (sonicblend production) Meena Sundaram (vocals / lyrics) Meena was born in Coimbatore, India and has lived in Mumbai for many years. She developed an interest in vocal music during her school and college years and has participated in many cultural programs. Her formal training in music includes Carnatic vocal music education under Shri Pallavur Mani Iyer of Mumbai and she is currently being trained in Hindustani Classical music by Mr. Warren Senders of Arlington. She continues to perform in local music programs and charity shows. She also has a busy Cardiology practice in Needham, Massachusetts. Meena enjoys the emotion and intrinsic spirituality of music and its ability to explore human nature and sentiment.
