Mutavi Muema has defined the new reggae sound in Africa. Born in Kenya, he has moved to the US and kept the roots of his youth intact. His lyrics are unique and thoughtful. The sound of his CDs are very intimate and personal with the throbbing reggae beat that has taken over Africa. Mutavi chooses not to "play" with the dancehall temptation, he sticks to roots rock reggae. What better way to express his insightful observations on life and love.

Mutavi's second release is currently available and hot off the press.

From Reggae Beat Magazine Vol. 18

Stylized vocals and bubbly computer rythms enhanced by some tasteful bass, guitar and keyboards inform Mutavi Muema on "Embrace it" His vocal style is reminiscant of Gregory Isaacs, particularly on the cuts "Warrior" and "Party Night". Although he was born in Kenya, nothing in the tracks marks this style as specifically African: The sound is straight up reggae. Muema's vocal approach is so personal you feel at times you're eavesdropping on a private conversation. Bassist/label head Mark Thies is given the interesting title of executive engineer, and the dubs that close the disc are excellent.
