Adjiri Odametey´s artistic roots are grounded in the traditions of his home country, Ghana. He collected international performance experience in ensembles like the Pan African Orchestra and the Ghana dance ballet. He has toured in Asia and South America. In his solo album entitled Mala, Adjiri plays world music, building on his impressions as musician travelling in different cultures. He masterfully transforms the traditional roots of his native culture into a unique, individual music experience. Adjiri Odametey plays with virtuosity on modern as well as traditional instruments: including the Balaphone (a wooden xylophone), the “thumb piano†Mbira and Kalimba, the 21-string Cora, the guitar, and drums. The music is occasionally lyrical and occasionally melodic, but always conveys the joy of playing with rhythm. The music weaves a tapestry of stylistic impression of West Africa. The CD Mala is Adjiri Odametey´s debut album. The Süddeutsche Zeitung (Munich, Germany) writes: “…his warm, earthy voice, absent of any vocal cavorting, leaves behind a deep impression. His songs are simple in a big picture but complex in details, poetical, melodic and never blurred.
