Achmed comes to CD Baby with quite a history. He performed from 1968-1976 as the 2nd lead singer with the Buddah Records group known as "EXUMA". He possessed a very beautiful soprano to tenor voice with very soft tones. During this time he performed on various albums such as, EXUMA 11, EXUMA [THE OBEAH Man], REINCARNATION, SNAKE, LIFE, and DO WAH NANNY. He traveled the world with EXUMA as an opening act for many great artist such as, Peter Allen at Finigans Rainbow in Ocean City, Maryland, Curtis Mayfield at the Bitter End in Greenwich Village, New York City. Patti LaBelle and Earth, Wind and Fire at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City. He also worked with Richie Haven, Taj Mahal, Sly and the Family Stone, Three Dog Night, Steppenwolf, Kiss, and many more. In 1974 he performed with EXUMA for the Queen of the Netherlands with the Edwin Hawkins singers. He performed for Lyndon O Pindling , Prime Minister of the Bahamas. In 1976 the group disbanded that consisted of Tony McKay, Michael O'Neill, and Achmed Ben-Mansel. This is when Achmed's creative juices started to really flow musically and lyrically. For 30 years from 1976-2005 - he wrote, created and penned almost 100 songs, music and lyrics. He became an ASCAP writer and publisher. He also became a member of NARAS and was a GRAMMY VOTING MEMBER from 2000-2005. "FREE AS A BREEZE" is the culmination of a lifetime of creating beautiful love songs and ballads. The music is soft, sensual, and sultry to fit almost every taste. Unfortunately on 1/05/05 Achmed's golden tenor voice was stilled . I am LaVerne, his widow, and I am producing this debut CD which he was in the process of completing but got to ill to finish. "FREE AS A BREEZE" is a cross-section of enchanting sounds. "I LOVE THE WAY THE LADY WALKS " makes you envision sun,sand, and two souls that meet and fall in love on the beach. "MARCIA'S THEME" is a sultry samba written as tribute to LaVerne's sister,MARCIA. MARCIA had a phenomenal spirit and loved to travel to Brazil. "FREE AS A BREEZE" title song-is talking about the love of life. His voice is like silk and the song is sung with great passion. "PLATINUM SKY" is an instrumental and makes you see the beauty of the evening sky and stars. "HERE IN MY LIFE" lets you know that life is short and recognizes all the things we need to do to enjoy our time on earth. "TWO LOVERS" is an istrumental that flows softly and attest to love between two individuals. I hope you enjoy the Cd entitled "FREE AS A BREEZE" the debut CD of ACHMED J.
