Spoken Soul is defined as: Highly thought provoking poetic messages embedded in soulful melodies. Northern credits the inspiration of the album to local Memphis street poets that have been entertaining and educating local and national audiences with outstanding spoken word performances. Original urban poetry, in its most intelligent and sometimes raw form, graces this project. The album is a mixture of Spoken Word, Jazz, R&B, and Hip-Hop. The album's intent is not to just entertain, but also to usher truth and understanding into certain life situations. Memphis poets include: Ms. Dee-Lite, T-Remedi, Arekah, F.W. Love, Kofa John Scribio, Leisa B., and the K-97.1 WHRK-FM December 2005 "Peace Achiever of The Month" winners Brotha's Keepa. Aaron Northern is an experienced Music Producer with credits on several Memphis music and media projects that include radio commercials and independent albums. Northern has also produced and performed two of his own independent Jazz albums. In 1997, Northern teamed with independent film director Michael Tabor to score music for the documentary “Reality MLK Jr.†starring Judge Joe Brown. Northern is a veteran musician that has played drums for several R&B and Blues performers including the late Blues recording artist Quinn Golden. In 2003, Northern first performed locally, and toured Europe with Memphis native R&B/Gospel singer Jackie Johnson. In 2004 while in Italy, Northern had the pleasure of performing in several concerts and live television appearances with Johnson and trumpet recording artist Andrea Tofanelli.
