White Elephant Recordings are pleased to present the début album from one of the hottest young live bands in the UK - Harambé. Steeped in the traditions of classic soul of the 70s, these soulboys brew up a heady stew of original soul and funk which eschews the straitjacketed robo-beats and over-production of the current crop of RnB stars in favour of old-school grit and power with a modern edge. Their music seems to conjure up the spirits of the great soul singers of the past - combining the smooth sensuality of Marvin Gaye, the urgency of Gil Scott Heron, the loose-limbed funk of the Meters and the melody of Stevie Wonder - yet at the same time pointing to the future, with its edgy, layered beats and flashes of electronic weirdness. This is authentic soul for a greyed-out world, played with passion and energy by a band who are not afraid of squaring up to their heritage and dragging it kicking and screaming into the 21st century. STOP PRESS: 19/04/05 After a hiatus spent recording and promoting their side-project, Broken Angel (also available through CD Baby), Harambé are officially back in the studio working on the follow-up to 'Roots'. Provisionally entitled 'Backyard Messiah', this is scheduled for release in late summer 2005. Stay tuned for more info! UPDATE: 24/11/05 Due to touring commitments with Broken Angel, the release of 'Backyard Messiah' has been delayed slightly until summer 2006. But fear not, the new album is shaping up nicely with some very funky tunes indeed, and as well as featuring new vocalist Andre 'The DreZone' St Clair Dyer, it will include guest appearances from fellow White Elephant recording artists Joseph Yianna (from Broken Angel) and the mighty DeMarvlest, aka BeSpoke.
