ARTIST DESCRIPTION: This is the soulful side of Deacon. A side that might be overshadowed by his pop/rock but, will most likely overshadow everything once heard. Of course, this is the same Deacon known as the multi-instrumentalist, but this is a different side with a sound that is so tight and clean. It will get you even if it's without vocals. Just as instrumentals, they would come across as a classic music. Then, there are the vocals. Deacon a/k/a Ryan Winkle comes with soulful, smooth vocals on this genre. The one thing that clues you in on the music being the same artist as the pop/rock Deacon is the amount of vocal harmonies. This is the one thing that Deacon deals with on both sides of his music. These particular harmonies sound soulful and from the heart. Albums like Life and Love Volume 1 and The Ego and The Patience sound equally from the heart but seem to have more influence from the Beatles and the Beach Boys (Pet Sounds era). All this with excellent horn arrangements adding an extra cherry on top of the "real world" lyrics that speak of fast times, high places, and murder with class. Something that everyone, and I do mean everyone from your Grandma to your 15 year old punk cousin will dig. Strange but very true. This is Friday night with more class than flash. An outcome of the "never-ending shake your ass syndrome". This is Deacon's introduction to "Fried To Funk". Enjoy..... MUSIC STYLE: Funky-ass rhythm with soulful, smooth vocals along with harmonies that sound heavenly. Always the tightest rhythm - a bassline that thumps your chest to please - horn arrangements that are Steely Dan with the elegance of Gil Evans - organ, piano, cutting-edge rhythm guitar, excellent songwriting. A sound that you will want to hear over and over again!
