We make room - a woman pulls up a huge instrument - 56 strings, and enough wood for a treasure chest. It's a bandura! "What's a bandura?"

Ky and Michi met Oksana at the Colorado Renaissance Festival in 2002. They were inspired by her example - lugging a bandura uphill both ways - and fascinated by the mysterious tunes she played.

"Would you teach me your music?" Michi asked, and so it began; Wednesdays with borshch and tunes, playing Ukrainian music between other shows at the festival, teaching it to everyone who would listen.

Two days of recordings on a Tascam 42 quarter inch reel to reel was a treasured bootleg until the friends reunited in 2005. In the meantime these tunes appeared on other performers' albums and in song circles.

This album is for Oksana, and for listeners to enjoy the ensemble of bandura, violin and guitar. She has been generous in offering music and stories in the old "minstrel" tradition.
