This is a new digitally remastered version of an LP album (with additional new material) first produced in 1971 shortly after Ted Studebaker was killed by the Vietcong. The original album was produced by Ted's Brother Gary and Gary's wife, Sue, along with Steve Engle. This new CD was produced with the blessing and assistance of the Studebaker family. As a volunteer with Vietnam Christian Service, Ted Studebaker had routinely sent back cassette recordings to family, relatives and friends during his two years of service. He had planned to stay a third year when he was killed. These cassettes were used for the original LP album. Here is an excerpt from Track #1 read by Andy Murray: "Ted Studebaker of West Milton, Ohio, was a young man who told his draft board he could not conscientously accept military service, but that he was perfectly willing to go to Vietnam. When Ted Studebaker went to war, he took no weapons. He took instread a guitar, a small tape recorder, but most important a dedication to the idea that more can be accomplished with tools than with guns..." The CD also includes interviews conducted by Howard E. Royer, who was for many years Director of Interpretation for the Church of the Brethren General Board. He is now Manager of the Global Food Crisis Fund. Andy and Terry Murray are veteran Brethren composer-musicians. Andy is also Director of the Baker Peace Institute, Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA and Terry is Minister of Music at Stone Church of the Brethren, Huntingdon. Their recording of Andy's song, "Brave Man from Ohio" ends this collection.
