Cliff Smyth combines this experience of having recovered from a repetitive strain injury (RSI) with the help of the Feldenkrais Method, with his 15 years of experience of working with individual clients and teaching classes for people dealing with these issues. The Feldenkrais Method offers a gentle, mindful approach to developing more sensitivity to ourselves and how we can use ourselves with comfort and ease and has helped millions of people world wide to recover from injury and live life more fully.

Cliff drew on years of reading and reflection on of the causes of hand and arm injuries, with his clinical experience helping computer users, musicians, workers and professionals of all kinds to create this unique program. The 12 lessons in this series provide a complete program to prevent these injuries – guiding you though a series of lessons that free up the pelvis, ribs and shoulders to support your hands and arms – and that help you become aware of and eliminate unnecessary effort that contribute to strain and pain. (These lessons are also suitable for those recovering from hand and arm injuries – provided that you proceed comfortably and slowly, spending the time to minimise the effort and increase your sensitivity. If you have any questions please contact Cliff through the www.learningforhealth.com website.)

Cliff is passionate about helping people with preventing and recovering from hand and arm injuries. As a poet he is interested in the relationships between language, embodied experience and society. He also trains Feldenkrais practitioners in working with hand and arm injuries in the USA, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand.

These lessons are effective, and taught in his accessible, clear and calm teaching style. These Awareness Through Movement lessons have helped many people in his public classes at the Feldenkrais Center for Movement Education in San Francisco – and they can help you too.
