The Los Angeles-based Really Spontaneous Theatre Company has been creating extremely funny live comedy improv shows for almost 20 years. That's a lot of suggestions! Before taking on LA, RSTC members honed their skills at New York City's National Improvisation Theatre, where they all studied with "first lady of improv," Tamara Wilcox-Smith. Many had classical stage training prior to studying improvisation, and some have appeared on Broadway and in TV and films. These actors all have one thing in common: Unique viewpoints on the world and a hilarious way of expressing those viewpoints. From improvising folk songs or big band numbers, to long-form scene work or even one-act plays, RSTC provides highly intelligent, humorous and imaginative acting free from the confines of a conventional script. You could see a hundred different improv groups, but none will equal the quality and intuitiveness of RSTC. The comedy improv group the Really Spontaneous Theatre Co. was founded in Los Angeles in 1998. Prior to that, the RSTC members had worked together improvising funny one-act plays as Split-Second Theatre at New York City's National Improvisational Theatre for almost ten years. During this time, some of RSTC's most hilarious and memorable characters were created: exalted Air Force captain Angel Weiner, dentally challenged rock enthusiast Neil Kolhoff, put-upon Illinois suburbanites Bud and Marge Tillson and ruggedly handsome gardener-turned-homicide detective Fitzy Muldoon Jr. Before departing New York for LA, RSTC played to sold-out houses Off Broadway at the Douglas Fairbanks Theater in the original improv comedy show Commedia Tonight. Once the group got to Los Angeles, many celebrities, inspired by the group's incredible work, asked to perform with the company. Actors who have worked with the RSTC include Nancy Cartwright (The Simpsons), Marisol Nichols (Resurrection Boulevard), Erika Christensen (Traffic), Patrick Renna (Rollercross), Lynsey Bartilson (Grounded for Life), internationally acclaimed, award-winning recording artists Kate Ceberano and Harriet Schock, Michael Fairman (Thirteen Days), Bodhi Elfman (Gone in Sixty Seconds) and Denice Duff (Young and the Restless). CELEBRITY QUOTES ABOUT THE RSTC: "It takes very talented actors with a sharp quick wit and great timing to accomplish exciting improvisation. Actors with these skills are a rarity. The Really Spontaneous Theatre Company is loaded with these amazing actors. It is a real treat to watch them perform." -Jenna Elfman, Golden Globe winning star of ABC's Dharma & Greg, currently starring in Looney Tunes: Back in Action "Simply one of the best troupes in Hollywood...A cohesive group of artists, this ensemble plays with the audience to create an exciting, never-repetitive evening of laughs and entertainment. A must-see experience, for adults and kids alike." --Nancy Cartwright, Emmy award-winning actress & the voice of Bart Simpson "Go see this show! This group is simply amazing. They work together like a well-oiled machine. Quick, smart and incredibly funny! I was still laughing on the drive home. Thanks for the fun." Ellen Plummer, Emmy award-winning writer and producer of NBC's Friends "My month with the RSTC was one of the most aesthetically challenging and even cathartic experiences of my career as an artist. The fallout effects are still continuing weeks later! For several weeks they guide you through certain rules, all of which help you to be more in present time, not invalidate your own ability, and to help the person in front of you. You can't imagine how this way of operating spills over into your everyday life. Your affinity for people comes up, your ability to be comfortable in an awkward situation improves, and if you are a performer, your stage presence and audition confidence skyrockets (I booked a film and a TV show during my stint with them!). It was priceless to be with a group that flows you such incredible power and makes it safe, and I mean effortlessly safe to do your art, whatever your art is. When I first started with them I would think 'Boy these guys are amazing and I stink'. Now imagine trying to perform with that thought in your head. Impossible and they know it and they sweetly flog you for minimizing your talents like that. Then flash forward two weeks later and that thought is firmly replaced by 'Boy these guys are amazing, and I'm cool too!' And there I was doing not one but two things I've never done before in front of live, paying audiences--improvisational theatre and playing the cello! They are the most caring and talented group of artists I have ever had the privilege to work with and I can't thank them enough for helping revitalize me as an artist...and just in time for pilot season!" --Denice Duff, star of The Young and the Restless, director/producer of the film Vampire Resurrection "The RSTC bunch is a very talented bunch! They work in what is normally treacherous and scary territory, and make it fun and easy. It's mind-boggling and side-splitting to watch and work with them!" --Erika Christensen, star of Traffic, Swimfan, and The Perfect Score "I got this thrill watching The Really Spontaneous Theatre Company, because all these stories came out of thin air and were so funny! I wanted to jump in and join them, they were having such a blast. I would've been content sitting and watching them create for an entire weekend. My cheeks still hurt a week after the show!" --Jennifer Aspen, TV and film star soon to be seen on NBC's Come to Papa "My mind keeps wandering back to HOW MUCH FUN it was to be with you last night. I've never been with a group of people so supportive and gently instructive and totally inspiring as you all. Surely you must know how fortunate you all are to be in each other's presence so often. It's sort of like being on a playground where no one's kicking dirt in your face. But much better!!! Thank you for offering me this opportunity as an artist." --Harriet Schock, award winning singer and songwriter, author of the book Becoming Remarkable "The show was great. Very clever, funny and surprising." --Dennis Maloney, cinematographer, The Contender "I laughed and smiled so continually that my face hurt!" --David Campbell, multi-platinum composer & arranger "I was amazed at how quickly the actors were able to assume three-dimensional characters and how I genuinely got pulled into the plots. It was hard to believe the stories were being created at that instant. They were so good that it seemed they were from some published play!" --Raven Kane, singer/songwriter Check out the artist's website: http://www.rstcimprov.com Track List: 1.
