Former adman Bernie Libster once told stories about computers and credit cards. Now he turns his skills to things he really believes in: saints and mystics, knights in armor, storytelling mermaids and other such stuff as dreams are made of. In Bernie's world the Nativity takes place in a New Mexico gas station, tigers bleat like lambs, a storytelling mermaid enchants a Sicilian village and the ghosts of east European immigrants still court, sing and suffer. Discover Gianni Rodari, whose magical tales surpass Calvino's for imagination, Andersen's for warmth. Wander the Umbrian hills with Francis of Assisi. Bernie draws on his own careening pilgrimage through life, his love of the absurd and his halting Italian to enliven his stories, which are for the young, the young at heart and the heavy in heart. Bernie is a member of the National Storytelling Network, the Healing Story Alliance, the New York Storytelling Center and the New Jersey Storytellers Guild.He has appeared at the Cornelia Street Café in New York's Greenwich Village, the Middlesex County Cultural & Heritage Commission's Storytellers Cottage and elsewhere in New York and New Jersey. He will be a featured teller at the 2002 New Jersey Storytelling Festival and a guest performer with the Pearls of Wisdom senior national touring company.
