This is a 74-minute audio book CD of original stories about food. Original musical interludes bracket each story, and recipes (a baker's dozen) are included in CD-ROM format. "Tales from My Table" is a collection of 12 true stories about food. Bittersweet, funny, and thought-provoking, the stories explore the way food influences our lives and our memories. We learn about relationships, about life, and about the thrill of eating what you love to eat and cooking what you love to cook. Imagine Anne Lamott and Garrison Keillor meeting under a full moon for a midnight picnic. Story titles include "Corn," "Muffin Madness," "September Song," and "Heart of My Heart." In CD-ROM format are a baker's dozen of opinionated recipes for some of the dishes mentioned in the stories (e.g., guacamole, pea salad, dried tomatoes, and eggs mimosa). The audience for this CD is people who like food, people who like stories, people who like memories (their own and others'), and people who love to listen to spoken-word CDs as they work in the kitchen or the garden, or as they motor from one place to another. Each piece is bracketed by a short instrumental sketch that reflects the mood of the story. Two additional food-related CDs are in the works. ANN TUDOR is a Toronto writer of creative non-fiction whose current work includes memoirs and collections of personal essays. She has published two previous spoken-word CDs (2002 and 2004), and her earlier publishing credits in the United States and Canada (books and magazine articles) date from 1974. This CD reflects the varied experiences of a lifetime: church organist, craftsperson, wife-mother-grandmother, cook, student of the cello, hands-on healer, copy editor, and managing editor. From each of her vocations and avocations she has coaxed a little additional information on how to make it through the journey. BOUNTIFUL PRAISE (see additional comments at Ann's website) The pleasures of Ann Tudor's table range from raw peas to the rather more complicated (and metaphorical) challenge of dealing with a caribou heart. The caribou's heart takes second place to the human heart, however, in Tudor's tales of food, cooking, and love. --Nicholas Pashley, bookseller and author of Notes on a Beermat If you eavesdrop on Ann's culinary confessions she will lead you into fresh fields of gastronomic delight. You will share her kitchen triumphs and her tragedies, but a warning: don't listen to this disc on an empty stomach; and have a glass of wine at your elbow. Ann's passion for the taste of food will stimulate your appetite, your memory and your mind." --Tony Aspler, wine writer; www.tonyaspler.com Ann Tudor is the most seductive foodie you will ever welcome into your kitchen. Her enchanting stories and reassuring voice are a delightfully delicious introduction to fresh food, intriguing recipes and the human heart. You will never look at an ear of corn or a fresh pea or a pat of butter in the same way again. --Steve Lawrence, Editor and Publisher, Crosswinds Weekly, Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM This vital and tasty romp explores the reminiscences of an ordinary-yet at the same time extraordinary-life. It's a savoury look at existence, love, and the tastes and sensations that help chart the course of our family lives. I loved it and really wanted to eat that fresh-picked corn! --Chef Michael Howell, Tempest Restaurant, Wolfville, NS Ann Tudor whets your taste buds and feeds your soul. To her, food is life. It nourishes, teaches, and sustains-and therefore demands to be celebrated. She underscores what every foodie knows: the only thing (possibly) better than eating food is talking about it. --Gillian Findlay, Host, CBC: the fifth estate What a delight! Many of my own long-forgotten memories were re-awakened by Ann's audible feast. She has made me want to hear more, share more, and live more closely to heart and hearth. --Sadie Darby, food and wine events planner Check out the artist's website: http://www.anntudor.ca Track List: 1.
