THE SOUND:

One man sits, playing drums with his feet, guitar in hand. The other man lunges around, playing crazed guitar. Both men sing. Songs charge out of the racket, real songs, vocal melodies standing on the shoulders of giants- Sam Cooke, Frankie Lymon, Dez Cadena-era Black Flag. Post-year 2000 primitivism hugs 50s romantic doo-wop with the arms of punk rock. Even though the songs stick in your head like superglue on a construction worker's helmet, this is party music. Take off your pants and dance.

THE STORY:

In Montreal, Canada, Black Snake and Mark Sultan played in the underground punk-garage band The Spaceshits. Following that band's demise, Mark banged drums for Canadian garage rock legends Les Sexareenos. Black Snake transformed into King Khan and relocated to Hamburg, Germany to become the Maharaja of 60's super-soul with his band The Shrines. After the Sexareenos split, Mark traveled the world with his guitar, serenading Brazilians, Laotians, Americans and the French with his one man band BBQ.

KK: Yeah, Mark was doing his BBQ thing, and he came to Europe. I'd started doing a one-man thing also, called King Khan and his Lonesome Guitar. We did some shows together, and every time we played, we'd wind up doing some songs together at the end.
BBQ: When we played shows - I'm just speaking for myself, but they seemed to be ridiculous, for whatever reason.
KK: People's pants were dropping. Excessive shimmying - people were shimmying with other people and cleaning the floor with their hair and stuff. It was crazy. I've never seen such an international amalgamation of freaks. In Berlin, we had these really Mad Max kinda punks, really greasy and scary, coming from Peru and France and all over, just going apeshit.

The KING KHAN AND BBQ SHOW album was recorded with minimal overdub from Louisiana ex-patriot DM BOB in his Hamburg studio. The result shakes it. Real low.

And we know low shakin here in Memphis.

Get it.
