When Mission of Burma booked its February 2003 show in Atlanta, guitarist Roger Miller specifically requested that Athens band Heros Severum be included on the bill. What did Roger Miller know about Heros Severum that seemingly few others apparently knew? Probably the same thing that former Jawbox/Burning Airlines leader J. Robbins knew. Following a show in late 2001 where Heros Severum opened for Burning Airlines, Robbins decided he wanted to produce the band’s debut release.

Heros Severum is a quirky little number. They can be loud and jagged, but melodic and catchy. They shout, speak, sing and clap our hands. They stop and start and start. They stomp our feet. Always without the bass - well almost. Just listen to that KICK DRUM!

Shellac? Minutemen? Missy Elliott? Nah, but you’re close.

Heros Severum is Eric Friar, Sherryl Branch and Davey Staton.

With the release of Plague Dogs, the band has now recorded and released two 7" vinyl records and two full length albums. Heros Severum is Ampex, MCI, ProTools, Earthworks, SMFIFTY-SEVEN. Analog vs. Digital? Both.Analog vs. Digital? Both.

November 2005 sees the release of Plague Dogs, the band's second full-length. Members of We Versus the Shark, An Epic At Best, Sharks and Minnows and Carrie Nations all make guest appearances.

Splendid - "Branch and Friar's dual guitars reveal the distinct lack of any low-end bass rhythms (all that's left is Cummings' tight drum beats), which makes for an invigorating listen. The tangled male and female vocals take turns clashing and making amends, creating a bold sound that's noisy enough for the anti-popsters, but melodic enough for those seeking a quick indie-rock fix."

Stomp and Stammer - "...Heros Severum are surely one of the most curious sounding rock combos our region currently boasts, and one of the best." -Jeff Clark.

Flagpole -"Plague Dogs is a rare example of an ambitious recording which overwhelmingly succeeds." Gordon Lamb.

Heros Severum is Eric Friar, Sherryl Branch and Davey Staton.
