Helen Cottney is a 23 year old singer from Lisburn, Northern Ireland. She started writing songs in February of this year and has just recorded her debut album. Music is my biggest hobby and love and my only regret is that I didn't start writing earlier.
I am a massive music fan and started collecting albums when I was around 14 years old. I now have around 600 albums.
My biggest influences are The Smiths, Morrissey, Echobelly, Suede, Hole, Kenickie, Manic Street Preachers, The Clash, Radiohead and Skunk Anansie.
I believe in writing a mixture of songs. My debut album has several song topics which are rather depressing-such as bullying, vivisection, panic attacks, nervous breakdowns, alcoholism, gambling leading to bankruptcy. I have suffered from depression in the past so it is an easy thing for me to write about and I know that it is a worldwide emotion that a lot of people can relate to but I also believe in writing humourous songs or indeed happy, positive songs as everyone has good and bad times. I get my song ideas just from everyday life.
