Hi, we’re Nash Lane, an experimental art-rock band based out of Weston, MA. Yes, we are a rock band. Yes, we are loud. No, we are not metal, punk, or anything-core. Yes, we do incorporate aspects of experimental and noise music. No, we are not a pure experimental or noise band. Yes, we also incorporate aspects of the purest forms of pop music. Yes, we are actually experimental. No, we don't really care; you can describe as whatever you want though we have been known to prefer: Art-rock, experimental rock, hard rock, rock, pop, or some combination of those. Yes, people (including ourselves) have been prone to use words like 'spacey', 'psychedelic', 'noisy' 'atmospheric', and 'rocking' amongst others to describe our music. No, that does not paint a completely accurate picture. Yes, we believe that the music will speak for itself.
Yes, we love you all.
We have been Nash Lane for about a year now. Prior to that we were simply three young men that loved music. Some of us made music with the other ones, some of us played with other people, and after many years we decided to play together. We stand by that decision. When we began we were influenced largely by experimental and creative hard-rock bands: Deftones, Incubus, and Tool. As time went on we used those influences as stepping stones and, while maintaining aspects of that sound, started to involve a myriad of artists and sounds: Radiohead, The Beatles, Failure, Barkmarket and countless more. We can't even agree on most of the big influences, but if you ask us we'll be glad to talk about all the bands we love. After all, we are aiming for an original sound so all that really matters is the end result. However it is safe to say that in creating our sound we take many different styles and genres into account from the Beach Boys' sunshine pop to My Bloody Valentine's warm shoegazing to Sonic Youth's guitar noise to Alvin Lucier's avant-garde pieces.
In the summer of 2004 we recorded and released our first EP, "Aldous Huxtable". It's available at www.cdbaby.com, and serves as a nice snapshot of us as a young band - some songs were up to four years old and one was so new we finished it in the studio.
In the summer of 2005 we went to Moon Tower Studio in Cambridge, MA with producer/engineer/mixer Chris Thomas and recorded our first LP, "Nash Lane Says... Have A Nice Day". Everything was written in the past year and every song is unique in its own right and fits together to form a full picture of Nash Lane as a band. We pride ourselves on our repertoire of sounds and “Have A Nice Day” paints a picture using the past, present, and future. Although we’d prefer for you to come up with your own ideas, we have taken the liberty of including some of our own self-indulgent descriptions: “David Cross” is a warm wash of sonic love propelled by driving guitar, “93” is an astral trip into a world where factory floors and highways dissolve into thin air, “Psychedelic Candy” depicts our dreams of funk overdosing on peace, love, and noise, and “Shapes & Colours” celebrates the intangible as it pushes and pulls sine waves into a disorienting blur. The rest of the album features everything from hard-rocking space epics (“Comfort”) to unadulterated terrestrial pop (“Salutations”).
With the release of “Have A Nice Day” in December, 2005 we are looking forward to playing a lot of shows and meeting a lot of new friends. We hope to bring our music to as many ears as possible, push boundaries, cause headaches, and predict the future.
Thanks very much for taking the time to read this. Have a nice day!
Love,
Nash Lane
