The music has been called many things, among which, things like, art rock, progressive rock, renaissance funk, world folk, and modern classic rock. The musicians of VDQ have been called mostly "World Class Musicians" by their peers. They write what comes to mind and follow the songs though to their logical end without regard to genre or flavor. They have been known to learn a new instrument for one small part of one song, just because it was needed for the piece.
