Finally, there is something truly original on the music scene, a new variant. The material is epic and meaningful, dark and light, heavy and floating, layered, textured and smooth, soaked in vintage vibe yet refreshingly new. Every song is its own adventure, its own statement; each one is different from the others, its own variant. Combined, they address the times we live in. The four musicians behind the sound come from different musical backgrounds with differing tastes. Each one contributes his own style. The band is aptly called “Variantâ€. Steal some time to go on an audio adventure with Variant, Beyond Jargon. Please bare in mind while listening to the samples that many of the songs are fairly lenghty, so you are just hearing tip of the iceberg. If you would prefer to hear longer samples, four of the songs are available in there full length, (although still in compressed MP3 form,) at our MySpace page at: www.myspace.com/musicbyvariant This is a concept album with powerful lyrics that reflect the times we live in, yet in the end reflecting a ray of hope for each of us. A brief band bio follows. For more information on the band, visit them at www.musicbyvariant.com and www.myspace.com/musicbyvariant. It started with a desire to make unique and original music, again. It started with a desire to make songs that were an adventure. It was spiced with a memory of musicians who made a different statement with each song they perform. It included a respect for those few musicians who create their own musical identity, even across a broad spectrum of different material types. It became a near obsession. Many of the original concepts were already taking shape when Jerry and Gary first starting kicking those “founding ideas†around. After a few loose sessions working on the material, Gary, the drummer, found the lyrics and musical concepts well worth further consideration. A few sessions later and the basic songs were beginning to emerge. They both felt that there was something worthwhile there, a diamond in the rough. It took the better part of a year to find the right lead guitarist. The search for the right bass player was equally difficult. Many auditions were held in Gary’s state-of-the-art home studio before finding the right players. Erik joined the band in the lead guitarist position in April of 2004. He then ran a local internet ad, which finally brought the right bass player in. Mike brought his brand of bass playing into the band around July that year. With the right players in place, the material took off. All four members had extensive experience and had all been in multiple bands. Each had a slightly different musical background however, which brought a nice twist into the mix. Erik’s straight ahead, heart felt guitar style blended nicely with Jerry’s often unusual guitar effects. Mike and Gary policed the low end and rhythm section while adding just the right amount of fills and flourishes. Mike’s fusion background and Gary’s extensive kit use added some additional texture and content. All four players often take the lead role in the music. While Jerry composed the main body and lyrics of all of the songs, each of the band members wrote their own parts. What began to emerge was a truly unique sound. Each song was intentionally developed to have its own sound and character. The band was named Variant for very good reasons. (The qualtiy of the CD itself is exceptionally high. This is an actual sealed, retail ready replicated CD.) Check out the artist's website: http://www.musicbyvariant.com Track List: 1. March To War 2. Today I Tried 3. None So Blind 4. Deeds 5.
