Originally forming in 1997 near Philadelphia, PA, Unsettled cemented their lineup just a year later and set out to make a name for themselves in their local music scene. Members Michael Ferrari (lead vocals and guitar), Peter Ferrari (drums), Gabriel Kienzle (bass), and James Byers (keyboards) are a tightly knit group that create a unique sound reminiscent of such roots rock artists as Barenaked Ladies, Counting Crows, and Brian Vander Ark (ex-Verve Pipe). To merely compare Unsettled to another band, though, does them little justice. While the sound may be familiar, it is also very much their own. "Ultimately we can only call ourselves "rock" because we have lost all objectivity. At the end of the day we're just Unsettled," states James Byers. Over the last five years Unsettled has seen their fanbase grow consistently. "The response to our music is always VERY positive," states Michael enthusiastically of the band's rising popularity. Their popularity has grown for good reason. Unsettled is a band that has loftier goals for their music than the mind-numbing pop nonsense that is prevalent in many of today's top bands/artists. "Musically we want be excellent at continually evolving and being innovative," says James of the band's evolution. Musicianship is important to the members of Unsettled and they recognize that to be great at what they do they must also maintain a creative and fresh approach to their songs. When presenting his views on Unsettled's goals and ambitions, James Byers eloquently adds, "We see ourselves like Nicorette's bridge between smokers who want to quit and the idea that they can; we want people who don't believe in anything to think it Ãs OK to believe in something. "In a time in history when it's 'cool' to not believe in anything and see nothing as 'right' or 'wrong,' Unsettled is much less about the fame that comes with success and much more about connecting with people.
