"LOCAL YOKELS", the radio show on WSIA 88.9 FM in New York, began in 1997 in an attempt to increase exposure for local and independent bands from the New York Tri-state area. The radio show created a forum where artists could expose their talents, getting many of them out of a garage and into the minds and ears of people everywhere. The show is broadcast over the Internet so these artists truly get exposure everywhere as many requests come in worldwide for some of the artists on this compilation. Since the inception of "LOCAL YOKELS", the show has grown into a major staple of the New York music scene receiving press in major newspapers and ever growing support from independent music lovers, not too mention all the bands the show has helped to expose and watch develop. It has been recognized over the years as one of the best independent radio shows on the East Coast. "United We Stand" was released in March of 2000, as a culmination of hard work and dedication from a radio DJ and a magazine editor as well as 12 bands from the New York tri-state area. This compilation CD features 12 up and coming bands from Staten Island, Brooklyn and other parts of the NY area. The idea behind the CD was to get the bands and other people in music to cooperate and promote one another to create a strong music scene. "Cooperation equals success, competition equals defeat." Perhaps the best part of this CD isn't even the music. Not only are there 12 tracks of diverse music of the rock genre, but there is 50 megs of multimedia on this CD as well. Radiowolf Productions recruited the design expertise of Photics.com to put together a multimedia section of videos, virtual jukeboxes and even a kareoke machine for one song. You can find pictures, songs and links to the bands websites in this section as well as a link to the "LOCAL YOKELS" radio show. Just wait until you see the video for Mindtwist. This great CD compilation only represents a small portion of the artists and talent that New York has to offer. At the very least this compilation serves a major purpose, solidifying a common goal by bringing together musicians and fans to promote original music.
