"One's heritage is by definition, one's credentials, one's backbone and one's flavor. Musically it is what makes you perform the way you do. One's drive is that inner quest to figure oneself out. At least that was the experience I had making this record. “I've had the privilege of working with some great talent and I can certainly say that the best players are those who are in touch with their musical roots- the players who play from their inner self. It is magical when someone challenges you and takes your playing to a different level. This doesn't happen very often but when it does, it proves to me why I am making music." Tony Pulizzi Heritage drive is a rock/jazz crossover project led by Cleveland guitarist/vocalist, Tony Pulizzi. It is an expansive project that involves some of the most talented players in the area. This debut CD ": looking back" delves into personal and political issues as one reacts to the world around them. SELECTED STAGES OF LOOKING BACK BE GONE- This song is in response to the many scams people encounter in life. MUST I WAIT- A growing impatience waiting for something in an angst spirit. ONE COUNTRY- A song burning with hope on how our society could be. Written years before the 9/11 tragedy, yet it provides a snapshot of what we saw in the wake of such a disaster. MAMA- a figurative song about gaining independence. The album sets the stage for resolution only to be found in the future of Heritage Drive. All through the album Pulizzi creates a haven of gaps for each musician to fill with their own passion. Heritage Drive is whatever the musicians make of it for that performance. It is like a musical chameleon. The players have freedom to show their character, their roots, their passion for music like what jazz music fosters, but display it in the realms of rock roots. This formula works for Pulizzi. The members involved in this project often find themselves working together on numerous other projects as well. Individual credits include sharing the stage with artists such as Vesta Williams, Angela Bofill, Alex Skolnick, Conya Doss, John Abercrombie Trio, The Dazz Band, R Kelly, Roger Smith of Tower of Power, Pieces of a Dream, and Silk as well as supporting each other's original projects (Straight To the Point, Forecast, Men of Ministry, Relative Ease). This newly formed band, Heritage Drive, has a lot of offer the music scene. This project is taking musicians from different scenes and expanding their talents to different styles. You are going to see top underground players brought to the top of their game. Who knows, this may become the next new musical movement to hit. The musicians' personalities do come alive on this CD as well as in every live performance. Be sure to watch for more releases including a live album in the near future.
