Hakaman Bio

Dave LaRocco, a.k.a. Hakaman, active performer, composer and recording artist, started drumming in 1982 with Devon Evans, percussionist for Bob Marley. Dave moved to Milan Italy where he lived for 1 year, performing with one of Italy's top reggae bands, "The La Bawana Band." Moving back to The Big Island of Hawaii, Dave performed with many bands for a year before moving to Sonoma County, California. There, he performed 1 year with "The Reptiles," a driving R & B band, making 2 stage appearances with GREG ALLMAN. Dave also played with "The Sam Andrew Band," from "Big Brother and the Holding Co.." He also played with "The Chambers Brothers." In 1996, Dave was the main stage manager for the 3 day Health and Harmony Fair in Santa Rosa, Ca., with attendances of 18,000-20,000 people per day. The evening of the last day, Dave performed with the SANTANA rhythm section, Sister Monica, and Tower of Power horn section, which drove the crowd crazy.

Following his return to Maui, Hawaii, Dave became a member of Maui's top reggae band, "Sly Dog" and also performing with "Sun Club," a rock-reggae band. Back in California, Dave met up with KAMAU, a djembe master, who picked Dave from a handful of great drummers, to tour with his African dance troupe, performing throughout Sonoma County. Dave returned to Maui for the 2000 Millennium Festival. In January 2000, Dave recorded his first C.D., "HAKAMAN," a 20-minute meditation and aerobic workout C.D., complete with breath-toning instructions; also great for putting on the headphones and grooving. Hakaman has now recorded his second C.D., "RHYTHMS OF LIFE," a world-beat blend of tribal, rock, funk, trance reggae jungle beats, and hot, driving percussion with rocking guitar riffs from a young and rising star, Dylan Kai, from The Big Island. With rare live recordings of humpback whales and cool ocean sounds. Be prepared. Turn up the music and groove.

Dave has lived in Hawaii most of his years following graduation from high school. Although Dave has lived and toured in many beautiful places of the world, the peace of the Hawaiian Islands has continued to draw him back and inspire his music. Peace, one-love.......Dave LaRocco, a.k.a. HAKAMAN.
