Band is at the forefront of Nashville's hardcore scene. MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL says "The Sex is a band of teenage punks who throw in a healthy dose of keyboards to create some seriously discordant new wave hits. They're young, cute, and everyone loves 'em! They write the songs that all of us would have written at the age of 15 but they do it without jumping on any bandwagons. When I see them all I can compare them to would be a stripped down Black Flag meets Flipper. They do 'zines, run a label, play in a band and go to junior high. What the fuck were you doing at fifteen?" (June 2003 issue) The Sex is "a furious stop-start hardcore trio", says the Village Voice-owned Nashville Scene. Comprised of Jake Orrall (guitar, bass, synth and vocals), Jamin Orrall (drums) and Jesse Weilburg (bass and guitar), the band has been building a steady and loyal following playing clubs in Nashville. Quoting again from the Scene, "Few subjects are off limits when you're talking to Jake and Jamin Orrall. If you want the two brothers to clam up, though, just ask them about school. "Uh," says Jake,16 and rail skinny, who suddenly finds the tips of his sneakers the most interesting thing in the room. "Uh" will be the extent of his thoughts on the matter. "I dunno," adds Jamin, 14, wearing a Clash Sandinista! t-shirt older than he is. "It's school." In the time they don't waste at school, the Orralls indulge an almost profligate creative streak. They have a band, The Sex, a furious stop-start hardcore trio with [12 year old] bassist Jesse Weilburg."
