When Peoria, Il's Brief Candles thank viewers of their website "for reaffirming our belief that people still want rock to be beautiful", they're not just being cute; even a cursory listen to their spacey, effects laden soundscapes will reveal the convinction behind the statement. The band merges etheral guitar atmospherics and melodies with a steady, hypnotic rhythm section, providing a somewhat modern take on the 90's shoegazer movement. After 3 years of playing a variety of shows they chose to record their first official full length with Paul Malinowski of Shiner fame. REVIEWS: "The sound of this band is mature, confident and very well defined. It's hard to describe when you listen to a band where all of the members are playing thier instruments and sounding like one complete expression" -jose banuelso, aerosol records "In general, if you're a 4Ad addict like me, you'll love Brief Candles, because they've made a solid release that still manages to be distinct in its own way. I'm impressed by this band and it certianly qualifies as a strong release deserving of more attention in my book" -danny rowe www.leftoffthedial.com Of the song June "the interplay between the drums and the slinky bassline is a treat. the vocals are everything i've ever loved about bands like MBV or Lush" Of the song If You Hear This "i like how this song evolves intot he galloping bassline and crescendos into the crazy, crazy distorted havoc that is uber teenage fanclub meets swervedriver before gently ending. i love it. -ron mominee' www.thecurtainsociety.com Check out the artist's website: http://www.silentfilmsoundtracks.com/briefcandles Track List: 1.
