On "Alchemy", Bret Sexton introduces his formidable improvisational and compositional skills on "electric saxophone". Formerly the leader of Sanskrit, an experimental jazz/fusion outfit, Bret steps out with this debut album under his own name, playing his own works plus two songs by electric bassist Tom Sublett. "Alchemy" is an electronic tour-de-force that includes subtle pieces of improvisational counterpoint, intriguing multi-media compositions, and low-down, funky, groove jams that will tear the roof off of wherever you happen to be! Sexton augments his swirling, ethereal sound with electric guitar and keyboards over a saucy bass/drums combination that blends into a vast, mind-numbing musical sensation; and also displays a beautiful sense of emotional expressiveness that sets him apart from the usual "free jazz" music that often lacks musical direction.
