Albumen wrote and recorded Lake Desolation over the course of Summer/Fall 2005 at Paul’s studio just below the lake. As the record took shape, it became clear that the ghosts of the dead inhabited the songs and the album. Also, during the process, many of the songs were transformed from their acoustic indie-folk beginnings into something more gnarled and noisy. The spirits are angry.

Who is Albumen?
Andrew Ashton has, among other things, broadcast indie-rock to communist Southeast Asia, been in a band called Pope Icky, and loves ice fishing. Paul Coleman used to live in Boston where he played in bands (the Operators and Sinkcharmer). He’s now an aspiring vegetable farmer who could talk all day about mummyberry and tractors.
