“Wotlie. Style, humour, the wit that's needed to be a really massive pop star, Wotlie has all of this in spades.” www.karmadownload.com

Wotlie got to house music the long way round… things got started musically at an early age, in fact, rumour has it he was conceived at an ELO concert in the late seventies. Shortly after these fateful comings, the guitar became his first love. A diet of psychedelic rock, funk, second-hand rusty chopper bikes and hand-me down space hoppers culminated in a handful of disco rock bands. Career things kicked off in earnest in London as a guitar playing singer songwriting funkpunker, but things were side-tracked by Chicago and America, after which, he ended up in Tokyo as a guitar-on-hire with Japanese erotic rock band, Boa Brain…. then came a brief stint penning pop tunes for Japanese entertainment divas… and now, HOUSE.

Perhaps the wee change of direction was inevitable… he has been shaking a leg at clubs ever since bum fluff fooled the bouncers… that coupled with his love of all things funky meant an eventual dabble with club music has always been on the cards. Things finally fell into place with a remix (get funked you funking funky funk) job for Tokyo funk band, Goo Punch. And so, the new course was set…. not that the past is far behind, the tunes are full of reminders of what was, funky disco riffs, rock n roll, folk guitars and falsetoes from the days of acoustic gigs.

So, 2006, still in Japan, and Wotlie is leathering dance-floors in Tokyo with his own brand of guitar fueled house music, sampling his own vox and guitar riffs and building disco pumpers. Dirty, moody, uplifting, rocky little monkeys. Resident DJ at Smile High Club and Brighter Days in Tokyo, the clean (but not so mean) streets of Tokyo are jumping to his beats. As one punter put it, “U2 on ecstasy”.

Armed with a lap-top, a box of tricks and an unhealthy imagination fired by the weirdnesses of Japan, Wotlie has combined his penchant for variety in music with tasty beats, carving a niche into a scene where things all too often become ‘same-same but different’.

Well, Wotlie is tired of writing in the third person, so unless you’re already listening, put the disc in your player, and turn her up. Hope u like.
