The Weather Machines began as a covert project of Rapid City, SD native Jason Ward. Transformed by exposure to either gamma rays or dangerous levels of T. Rex, Buddy Holly, and 60s Brill Building pop, Jason's mind came to understand the world solely in terms of guitar hooks and vocal melodies. With this outlook, he took to a Very Secret underground laboratory and began to formulate a potent blend of sub-three-minute pop catholicons he was certain could cure Midwestern youth culture of its severe dance aversions.

However, due to the heightened security precautions of a post-9-11 America, super-villainous distribution of this amazing theriac via city water supplies was found to be impossible. Thus, it was necessary to enlist the technical assistance of J. Waylon Miller, who had spent the better part a decade in the business of subversive power-pop delivery as front man of the notorious Reddmen. A strategy was quickly developed: Miller would accept drumming duties, and Ali DeMersseman, Jason's attractive laboratory supervisor, would cover bass. Finally, in October 2004, exiled mathematician Patrick S. Fleming was recruited to handle additional guitar work and test-tube clean-up duties.

Since then, the group has performed a number of large-scale public tests in Rapid City with fellow experts Two Gallants, The Thermals, Melt Banana, and Low Skies, all of which have produced excellent results. Test subjects in the thin air of Colorado, where the group has conducted field tests with Built Like Alaska, The Swayback, and Hot IQs, have also been found to be enthusiastically responsive.

Some "industry" words used to describe The Weather Machines might be: minus danger, true science, star vocal, action slacks, doctor fox, and Active Bottoms.
