It only takes one listen to know The Evidence Manual packs its music with complex emotion and endless energy. Listen closer, and you'll find the music itself is complex, layered with unusual notes, sounds and collaborations. These musicians are attuned to the intricacies of their instruments, and they achieve a rich sound that's all their own. You might say the Evidence Manual is a tease, often exploding with emotion only to pull back. But they can never contain it for long. Mine begins energetically, but soon brings it down a notch as Andy offers up pleading, vulnerable vocals. The band continues to work itself into a frenzy and then release, giving the song a trance-like, otherworldly quality. Lay Waste the Sky begins melodically, pulling you in with an echoing guitar solo. The vocals are sometimes meek, sometimes overwhelming, as the keyboards work at a furious pace and the bass, deliberately steady, grounds the song at last. Keyboards also enhance The Shortest Distance, melding a sound fit for a Cathedral with some serious rock guitar. The track also features amazingly energetic drums. Quality drumming anchors You and No Other, which winds up, not down. This radio-friendly tune, with hints of Coldplay and Jimmy Eat World, showcases the band's percussive versatility. Drums help carry Water Over, as well, punctuating every verse. This song of yearning is hard and heartfelt all at once, and might remind you of Tool. Red Yellow Light, with its grand, epic quality, belongs on a movie soundtrack. It is male energy personified -- and perhaps The Evidence Manual itself personified -- both unsettling and alluring all at once. On this track, the band unleashes emotion relentlessly before retreating slowly, at last, as if to soften the blows and prove they weren't really mad in the first place. You might say it represents the ebb and flow of life, love and creativity. Check out the artist's website: http://www.theevidencemanual.com Track List: 1. Mine 2. Water Over 3. Lay Waste the Sky 4.
