Nick Gagliardi – Electric Guitar Jon Puntenney - Drums/Percussion Alex Repetti – Bass Guitar Joe Song – Acoustic Guitar/Vocals An eclectic quartet of musicians, The After Effect hail from Brooklyn, NY. They formed in the summer of 2005 and have been going on strong since. Joe Song and Nick Gagliardi have previously worked under the band name Bad Poetry and released their debut album, Things That Youre Afraid Of, in the summer of 2004. The ten-track release consisted of songs that Joe wrote prior to meeting Nick and were the first songs he ever wrote. By then, Joe had only begun his interest in music and was only a novice songwriter/performer. Though well received, the album was easily recognized as a good first attempt with songs that were catchy but underdeveloped. Nick and Joe met at their high school and became friends after learning of each others interest in music. Nick was already familiar with recording music at near-professional levels and soon formed the band Bad Poetry with Joe. They took Joes first songs and added the usual rock instruments to his acoustic blueprints and made a compilation that served as a stepping stone for the two. Both Nick and Joe played all the instruments on the CD. Not only did the album serve as a stepping stone, it also served as a valuable learning experience on things like mastering and producing a CD. Also, the need to find a drummer and bassist became glaringly obvious upon completion. During Joes last year at high school, he met Alex Repetti who let Joe and Nick know that he loved Things That Youre Afraid Of and was dying to jam with them, even if it meant switching to the bass guitar. He sent them recordings of guitar riffs and solos he had done, which impressed the Bad Poetry duo so they invited Alex to the studio. After one session, Joe and Nick decided that Alex would be a perfect fit for the band. Amazingly, Alex began his guitar lessons merely a year prior to joining The After Effect. It goes to show that with dedicated practice and focus, people can make remarkable progress in anything they do. Alex remains heavily influenced by classic rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Pink Floyd, progressive rock bands such as Dream Theater and Rush, Jazz Bands such as Weather Report with Jaco Pastorius, Jam Bands such as Dave Matthews Band, Phish, and The Allman Brothers Band, and Funk bands such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, Parliament, and Tower of Power. Joe remains heavily influenced by Dave Matthews Band and artists such as Kyle Riabko and Gabe Dixon. After dabbling with the electric guitar, Joe finally settled into playing the acoustic because of it's ability to maximize the playing of rhythms. Nick is also influenced by classic rock bands, especially the ones he grew up listening to such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and The Who, and has a flair for tons of contemporary music as well such as 311, Rage Against The Machine, and Sublime. Having the better part of a decades experience playing the guitar, Nick lets loose as a guitarist. Jon is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio but moved to New York with his family. All together, he has 13 years of drumming experience under his belt. When he read the The After Effect was yet again looking for a drummer, he jumped on the opportunity and contacted them, letting them know of his interest. Jon was a fast favorite to become the drummer and sure enough, he won the job. Among others, he remains influenced by Carter Beauford, Dennis Chambers and Dave Weckl. The After Effect is one of the few local bands that have members in the band that each can write music. They are about making music as a group effort and also creating music on the fly by jamming together whenever they can, whether it is on stage performing or in the studio messing around.
