Formed during the summer of 2003, the San Diego based duo; Shere didn't waste any time to write and record their debut full length album; Not Los Angeles. The eleven song opus was released three months later on one of the youngest San Diego label North Park Records.

The two members of Shere are the current bassist-vocalist of Channing Cope Ali Deniz Ozkan and the ex frontman of Sugar Kane & Swoan; David Stir. In fact the very first time these two musicians started playing music together was during the mid 90's; February 94' to be more accurate. Stir was looking for a bass player to complete his band Swoan. Ozkan responded to an ad posted by Stir and that's how everything got started. They played together for five full years, the band opened for prestigious bands such as, Mogwai, Arab Strap, Royal Trux, dEUS, Drug Store, Marouse (ex members of "La Manonegra) and The Godfathers.

When listening to the music of Shere the first words that are coming in mind are intimate and minimalist. The duo uses soft harmonized voices accompanied with a warm sound of a piano Rhodes and drony bass lines. The duo doesn't uses any drums or percussive instruments. Guitars are rarely used, but when they are, it definitively gives a different texture to the music. The lyrics of Shere are mostly abstract and based on human relationships.

Not Los Angeles can be taken as a cute and naive rebellion against self-consciousness. The front cover of the album is a pretty row picture of the two band members, where they appear much uglier than they probably are in reality. Although the music is soft and pretty, the real strength of the album is its spontaneity. The songs were recorded at the same time they were written, without having the chance of being fully judgmental towards them. Eleven songs all very intimate and emotionally powerful with a uncommon orchestration, all these elements make it worth to give a listen to Not Los Angeles.
