Once upon a time, there was a certain Barry Eley, gigging his own personal songs in London (England) clubs, playing acoustic guitar. He was to meet Peter Frost, who owned a recording studio in Sussex, and was searching for a song-writer who could stimulate his ideal of producing melodic material - along with the underlying desire that contemporary rock should be moving forward. Peter had formerly been a pro jazz/rock/blues musician with his own band, playing in Europe and the UK. Peter has also worked as a session guitarist and played in many a London Studio.

Barry and Peter joined forces. A number of studio sessions ensued, adding drums, synths and amped-up blues/rock guitar players. The first Sheer Fluke album, titled "Drink Life While it's Hot" was marketed via Peoplesound in the UK, which resulted in over a 1000 downloads. The CD is now available via the Sheer Fluke Website.

The interest in the CD, along with the favourable audience reaction at gigs, prompted the two into writing more material together and getting the songs recorded - hence album two, entitled "Unexpected".

All the playing and singing on Unexpected was down to just Barry and Peter. Recording priorities: 1. Melody (no 2-bar riffs masquerading as songs), 2. Feel (groove), 3. Vocal (performance), 4. Backing (modern rock)

To try and describe the overall style of the band by quoting the names of well-known artists is always dangerous. However, people do read these notes in order to form a view - so, imagine a combination of Hall & Oates, David Gray, Style Council, Booker T & the MGs and Squeeze.

Sheer Fluke benefit from the vocal chords of Barry (the Bruce) Eley. For an idea of his vocals, try a blend of the following: Mick Hucknall, Neil Finn, Lennon & McCartney, Robert Plant, Chris Martin, Glenn Tilbrook, Paul Rodgers and even Alison Moyet.

Sheer Fluke now have enough new songs for album number three, but Barry and Peter are finding it hard to meet up and grab the time needed to record............

Visit www.peoplesound.com/artist/sheerfluke/ - the first album is not now available from Peoplesound, only from Peter's studio in the UK. However, the Peoplesound website provides free downloads of 2 of the 10 tracks from the album.

Check out Peter's own album of original instrumental works, ranging from prog rock to classical-crossover, titled "Five Over Four". The CD is available from CDBaby.
