I wanted to grow up and be a Beatle; not a "Love Me Do" Beatle, but more of a Sgt. Pepper Beatle; not a performer, but more of a recording artist; and to some extent, I became both. This album consists of pieces that I wrote after attaining a BA in Music (classical guitar) at CSU, Sacramento, 1985. I worked on the pieces with fellow alumni (a.k.a. "dudes"), and we recorded the album at Paradise Studios, Sacramento in 1993. With everything complete, we still needed a name for the project. After trying on several names, it always came back to a name which was really just an inside joke. So with a growing list of definitions and uses for the word (sort of explained at potwisha.net), we finally felt that there is really only one name that described the experience in its entirety. So with the sub-title "Eric Kjorlien & Friends", the project, the album, and the experience was entitled: Potwisha The following is the song list with descriptions: Make It Happen This was the theme song for the project. It seemed fitting to put this standard rock song first on the album. The Keeper We then jumped to the psychedelic. I think of the composition as a kaleidoscope. In the verses, the chord structure repeats every 3 measures while the lyrics land in 4 measure phrases. Then the mystical guitar solo features its own mystical offset patterns. The Stephanie Song This song is of my daughter when she was a fun, precious, and beautiful little baby girl. It is her artwork as a 3-year-old which adorns the front of the album. Perfect Day For this I received a Certificate of Acheivement award from Billboard's 7th Annual Song Contest (1995). Breakfast for the Masses Another rocker. This one was probably most influenced by the dry sacasm of Graham Parker. Tools for Access I suppose that I should give the B52's some credit for the influence on this one. Dysmal 'Bysmal Drudgery Here's a metal one. It explores how depression defies common sense. WeB20thC Here's hard rocker about American attitudes which contribute to the destruction of our planet. Strange and Wonderful Place It's obvious here that I am a Moody Blues fan. Call It for Rain This is a simple rock tune that for me becomes more meaningful as time goes on. Scandinavian White Boy Blues This is the most biographical tune. In my compassion for the targets of racism I always felt a little left out.
