Imagine if you will, that you are trapped on an elevator with Beck, The Velvet Underground and My Bloody Valentine. With nowhere to go, they break out their instruments, cleverly concealed in their rock star garb, and proceed to jam; exuding the catchiest, oddest, cleverest little ditties that you could imagine. That, ladies and gentleman, is Pono.

PONO was formed in 1998 by two humans and one plastic rat named Shelley. The eclectic, quirky, witty, and rich music that emerged was dubbed "Ravioli Rock".

Most open-minded listeners will get PONO's music.

Each song on their two records is a separate creation. Some songs are humorous, sardonic, witty, pop while others are darker, serious, rich, and artsy. This contrast is what makes PONO interesting.

While all songs seem to stand alone there is a subtle cohesion that presents itself to PONO's listeners which is when the magic of PONO is realized.

If you are fan of the present commercial radio status quo, PONO is not for you.

They are the exact opposite of Creed, Rage Against the Machine, Brittany Spears. If you like this kind of music have fun with your quietly desperate and uncreative existence.

If you are open minded and enjoy new and interesting things buy PONO's CDs, visit their web page, become a fan, sell your belongings, and follow the band around, you will not regret it.

In a White Zinfadel/Budweiser world, PONO is the Merlot/Guiness of it all.
