Santa Cruz Metro Oct. 19-26 "...Its title (vague smiles) is an appropriate approximation of how your face will appear as they launch into little ditties about jello shots, Reaganomics, and dress-up time. The kids these days, they've got their priorities straight. Fight the monster menace, support the myth busters."
-Peter Koht

Your Music Magazine Issue #34 Oct/Nov 2005 "...Whether you are drifting through the timeless frustrations in "Blame" or pounding through chunkier beats in "Dress Me Up," Monsters will impress you with their insight and versatility. Props to Engineer Dave Egan for creating a professional, finished final product (the missing link on most unsigned bands CD's), and kudos to the band for doin' it right."

Formed in 2004, California rockers Monsters Are Not Myths credit their name to the brilliance of a seven-year-old. After stunningly terrible name suggestions from the band members (such as The Coldcuts), the solution came in the form of a child at the day care guitarist Nick Giordano worked for. "He was always drawing me pictures and one day he hands me this picture of a band with Dracula and Frankenstein on guitar and bass respectively. At the bottom of the drawing he titled the band Monsters are not Myths," says Nick. Always ones to take candy from a baby or intellectual property from a seven-year-old, the group eventually decided to adopt the name. Monsters are not Myths has gone on to become the most-popular-Santa-Cruz-indie-rock-band-with-a-name-a-child-created for three years running.
Evan Hamilton, a self-taught pianist/singer/harmonica player, managed to pass across Nick Giordano in a musician's classified ad. Nick had been playing guitar and egg shaker for five years previously and his credits included five Santa Cruz bands. After several roster changes, the duo settled on former boxer Dan Boram to play drums.
With a unique mix of folk, rock, and punk influences, Monsters are not Myths defies musical definition. The piano/guitar/drums combo manages to pull in listeners with skillful melodies and keep them there for the manic energy projected by the trio. Located in Santa Cruz, California, Monsters Are Not Myths plays both the electric and acoustic circuits, alternating between folksy renditions of their songs and their explosive electric set. Portable Luminaire, an acoustic collection of Monsters material, was released in 2004, and October 2005 marked the release of their full-length electric album, Vague Smiles.
Unmatched in energy and stage presence, Monsters commits itself to the audience, the music, and receiving advice from children.
