MOGUL After signing to new London independent record label wretchedrecordings in March 2003, Mogul released their debut single 'Play Away' on November 3 that year, fully supported by music industry heavyweights Anglo Plugging (who had a key role in breaking Oasis and who represent acts as diverse as U2 and Elton John). The band have impressed writers from both the band's local (southeast London) as well as national press, weekly and monthly magazines, and the single has been played on numerous national and regional radio stations. Mogul have played at an increasingly impressive range of key venues in London, often to high acclaim. They are now used to venues finding them one of the most exciting live acts in London today. Venues they have played recently include The Hammersmith Palais, Cargo, West One Four, The Barfly, The Buffalo Bar, Blackheath Concert Halls, The Garage, Water Rats, The Borderline, The Clapham Grand and Metro. In November 2003 they supported popular Sony-signed Australian band Jebediah on a couple of London dates on their UK tour and Mogul themselves are going down a storm in Australia. Their single was simultaneously released in Australia and New Zealand by Little Big Music, which was started by Grant Thomas, Gaynor Crawford and Moira Bennett. Grant was previously manager of Crowded House, Tim Finn and Neil Finn, Gaynor works with artists including Bob Dylan and Santana, while Moira helped Richard Branson set up Virgin Records Australia. The video for the single 'Play Away' has been shown on Video Hits, Australia's most watched music video show, as well as MTV and Sky in the UK. MTV presenter Dave Berry on the MTV website has cited Mogul as 'future superstars to watch'. The video was shot on 16mm film stock by up-and-coming director Mark Wong and features striking special effects including the lead singer freezing in a blizzard. Filming for the video for the band's second single has commenced and is set to have a very diverse cast including one or two surprise celebrities. Completion of Mogul's second single and debut album are well under way, with the band working at London's Fortress Studios with Dan Swift, who has recently worked with Aqualung, Suede and Snow Patrol. Various tracks have been remixed by Chris Kimsey, who has worked with - well almost everyone - from the Rolling Stones downwards. Unsurprisingly, the new tracks are shaping up very well indeed. The Mogul word is spreading internationally with radio plays, video broadcasts, music website, press and record company interest from all corners of the world.
